Established in March 2014, the Institute of Blood and Marrow Transplantation (IBMT) at Soochow University is the first specialized research institution in China, focusing on hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. It is supported by the Department of Hematology at the First Affiliated Hospital of Soochow University, which has MoE’s national key disciplines, MoH’s national key clinical specialists, the Jiangsu Provincial Center for Blood Disease Treatment, and the Clinical Medical Center of Hematology. The HSCT Center of Department of Hematology has become one of the largest Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplant Centers in China. It has succeeded in over 500 cases of hematopoietic stem cell transplantation each year and ranks second in China. The IBMT at Soochow University enjoys a high reputation both at home and abroad.
Oriented to clinical applications, the IBMT at Soochow University follows the tenet of “clinical service, mutual transformation, scientific and rigorous, and collaborative innovation”. The key research fields include molecular genetics, immunology, infection, anemia and bleeding, and stem cell and immune cell therapy that are related to blood and marrow transplantation (BMT). The IBMT at Soochow University conducts a basic and clinical study on bottlenecks and key technologies in BMT in order to make a series of achievements with independent intellectual property rights and the value of clinical application for promoting BMT’s developments and progress.
Located in the Huafeng Building on the Tianci Campus at Soochow University, with office space of 1,500 square meters, the IBMT of Soochow University has established five state-of-the-art research platforms on molecular biology, cell biology, immunology, stem cells, and animal testing. Professor Wu Depei, the current director, is a famous expert on hematology and has served as Vice Chairman of the Chinese Medical Association, Leader of laboratory diagnosis, Vice President of the China Hematology Association, and Chairman of the Hematology Division in the Jiangsu Medical Association.
Until now, IBMT has three research groups and seven scientific & technical staffs, including one distinguished professor, one visiting professor, one associate professor and one winner of the excellent doctoral dissertation of Jiangsu province. IBMT has supported by several National Natural Science Foundation of China and Jiangsu province. IBMT has awarded 2 science and technique progress prize of Jiangsu province and ministry of education.
Striving to build an international competitive research team, the IBMT at Soochow University is recruiting outstanding scientists at home and abroad with an internationally accepted system for principal investigators. It will strive to become a high-level scientific research platform that is domestically first-class and internationally renowned. In addition, it will bring a trinity of basic research, clinical transformation, and application development that is related to China’s hematopoietic stem cell transplantation.
