He is a member of the Boardon Environmental Studies and Toxicology (BEST) of the National Academy ofSciences (USA). He is a member of the Science Advisory Council (SAC) of theNational American Flame Retardant Association (NAFRA). He was a member of theCommittee on Toxicology of the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) of the USAand served as a Chairman on the NAS Subcommittee on Iodotrifluoromethane;Chairman on the NAS Subcommittee on Tetrachloroethylene; and as a member of theNAS Subcommittees including Flame Retardants; Jet Propulsion Fuel-8, andToxicologic and Radiologic Effects from Exposure to Depleted Uranium During andafter Combat; and a member of the Advisory Expert Committee of the CanadianNetwork of Toxicology Centres. He served as a Chairman of a US EPA Panel onPeer Review Assessment of Toxicity Values for Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons,member of Panel on the Beryllium Lymphocyte Proliferation Screening Test, anExpert Panel Member on the Breast Milk Monitoring for Environmental Chemicalsin the USA, a Core Panel Member of the Voluntary Children’s Chemical EvaluationProgram (VCCEP) part of a USEPA initiative, Expert Panel member on the PestManagement Regulatory Agency of Health Canada on Citronella Science review,Expert Panel member on drug-induced phospholipidosis to several pharmaceuticalcompanies, Expert Panel member of the Council of Canadian Academies onIntegrated Testing of Pesticides and member of the Institute of Medicine (IOM)committee on Blue Water Navy Vietnam Veterans and agent Orange Exposure. He hasedited several texts on pediatric toxicology and serves on several editorialboards. He has been a peer reviewer for the EPA on the Integrated RiskInformation System (IRIS) documents, on the US EPA Health Effects AssessmentSummary Table (HEAST) chemicals, on the chemical-specific issue papers for theSuperfund Technical Support Center (STSC) for the US EPA and served on NationalInstitutes of Health (NIH) grant study sections.  He has received theAchievement Award of the Society of Toxicology of Canada in 1983, the AchievementAward of the Society of Toxicology in 1986, the ICI (Zeneca) TravelingLectureship Award in 1991, the US-China Foundation Award in 1995, theColgate-Palmolive Visiting Professorship Award in 1997, and the PublicCommunications Award of the Society of Toxicology in 2002.  He is theauthor of over 150 papers, reviews and book chapters with emphasis in generaltoxicology including renal, hepatic and pulmonary toxicology.
